The option to download a copy of the printed Cruise Compass is a new way to learn about what's happening onboard the ship. Most of the activities listed on the Cruise Compass newsletter will apply on ships in the Voyager Class. These ships include Voyager of the Seas, Explorer of the Seas, Adventure of the Seas, and Navigator of the Seas.
Past Cruise Compasses
In the past, Royal Caribbean provided a paper copy of the Cruise Compass. This paper version would be delivered each evening to passengers’ staterooms, outlining the following day’s events. Additionally, the Cruise Compass also contains helpful information about the opening times of all the venues and restaurants, upcoming port visits, and any potential changes in the itinerary. Generally speaking, Royal Caribbean sailings on a particular ship do not change that much from week to week in terms of the activities or entertainment offered. There will be some discrepancies, but an old Cruise Compass can give you a good ballpark of expectations to plan around.

More resources for your Royal Caribbean cruise

Additionally, shouldbecruising.com participates in various other affiliate programs, and we sometimes receive a commission from purchases made through our links. Our first sea day was also our first formal night of the cruise (we had two on the seven-day sailing). Here are the full 7 days of Cruise Compass paper planners from my Western Caribbean + Perfect Day cruise roundtrip from Miami on Harmony of the Seas in April 2023.
Choosing Between the Cruise Compass and the Royal Caribbean App

With society shifting towards digital consumption, many cruise fans have assumed a digital-only Cruise Compass is an inevitability. Depending on the ship, there are also other ways to see activities, such as on a designated channel on the in-room television and/or via the wayfinders in the hallways. Ms. Fraser reported there are QR codes at both Guest Services and sent to the cabin that you can scan with your phone's camera. Karen Fraser shared photos in the Liberty of the Seas Facebook group of the new option.

Royal Caribbean used to hand out paper copies of the Cruise Compass every night, detailing the next day’s activities. Now, they’re moving towards digital, offering paper copies only if you ask for them. It’s a daily newsletter that tells you about the day’s activities, shows, dining spots, and important news. Our second-to-last sea day was also a formal night, with a “Dress to Impress” dress code in the Main Dining Room. Also, on selected ships, your Cruise Compass will be loaded onto the Royal Caribbean International App. This way you can plan your time onboard directly from your mobile device!
Brilliance of the Seas 5-night Tasmania Cruise Compass - April 7, 2024
I love sharing my best cruise tips with you, along with reviews of cruise destinations, shore excursions, cruise ships and cruise lines. The Cruise Compass is Royal Caribbean's daily onboard newsletter, found on each ship. Every evening, passengers receive the following day's newsletter in their staterooms. The first page has an overview of what to expect that day, including where the ship will be (in port or at sea), a weather report, and various specials, offers and events that are highlighted. By far, the weather report in the upper right hand corner is the most useful information on this page.
Choosing Between Physical and Digital
The compasses change with each sailing and in most cases won't populate until the week of your sailing. There is a compass link for past cruises, but the info won't fully be relevant. Personally, I much prefer the layout of the cruise compass, as it has a very handy daily snapshot and tips and highlights for each day.
To download a copy, just look for the large QR codes located at strategic points around the ship. You’ll also see them on the racks where you used to be able to pick spare copies of the cruise compass. Also, on select ships, your Cruise Compass will be loaded onto the Royal Caribbean International App. This way you can plan your time onboard straight from your mobile device!
We recently sailed on the Mariner of the Seas for a 2 Night Weekend Bahamas cruise from Port Canaveral, Florida. The Daily Planner is Royal Caribbean’s daily activities schedule, and is delivered each night to your cabin during turn-down service as well as digitally on the Royal Caribbean App app. All the onboard activities for the following day will be listed, such as events, showtimes, drink specials, entertainment, and other things happening around the ship. These newsletters are a guide to everything that is happening on the cruise each day.
The Cruise Compass contains everything passengers need to know, including featured activities, special events, show times and more. It also highlights any special offers or discounts available for dining, drinks, onboard merchandise purchases and even shopping in port. The Cruise Compass keeps you in-the-know about everything there is to see and do both onboard and off. Think show times, restaurant opening times, when and where bingo will be played and what shops have sales.
This isn’t an actual example – it’s just a picture to illustrate what the cruise compass looks like for Mobile users as the PDF’s don’t display on mobile. If you’re someone who prefers a physical copy, just let your Cabin Steward know on the first day. They can arrange to have a paper copy delivered to your room daily.
The Teen planner is a bit more similar to the Cruise Compass in structure, with a chronological breakdown of events and activities that are just for teenagers. The third page is an important page for referencing which venues are open and what time. You will get a breakdown of open hours for many areas of the ship, and most importantly, restaurants. The most important part of this page is the "Activity and Entertainment Highlights," which lists the headline show/performance of the evening. Since the evening entertainment is usually the most popular and well-known acts onboard, it is always a good idea to see what performances are scheduled for the evening. The Cruise Compass is more than just knowing what time bingo is at.
In addition to a listing of everything happening onboard, guests can add specific events directly to their own digital calendar for easy tracking. As you make reservations or add activities directly from the daily Cruise Compass to your calendar, your schedule is automatically updated. Royal Caribbean provides a lot of programming for children and teenagers on their ship. Some events make it onto the regular Cruise Compass, but there are even more events listed in special daily planners just for the kids.
